1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. They are used to remember preferences between page loads, to keep a session working, and — on many sites, though not this one — to build a profile of your browsing across the web.

This page also covers similar technologies such as local storage, which we use in one specific case described below.

2. What this site uses

We keep this deliberately minimal. This website does not use advertising cookies, does not use cross-site tracking, and does not sell or share browsing data with third parties for marketing.

• Strictly necessary — a small number of cookies required for security and for the site to function. These cannot be switched off without breaking the site.
• Local storage — a single motion-preference key, set only if you enable animation debugging via a query string. It is never set during normal browsing.
• Aggregate analytics — where enabled, used only to understand which pages are read and where visitors arrive from. Data is aggregated and not used to identify individuals.

3. What we deliberately do not use

We think it is more useful to tell you what is absent than to list what is present.

• No advertising or retargeting pixels.
• No cross-site tracking or data brokerage.
• No session recording or heat-mapping of individual visitors.
• No third-party social media tracking widgets.

4. Controlling cookies

Every major browser lets you view, block, and delete cookies, and offers a setting to reject third-party cookies entirely. Because we do not rely on non-essential cookies, blocking them will not meaningfully degrade your experience of this site.

You can also send a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal from your browser. We honour it: where an analytics measure would otherwise run, it does not.

5. Embedded third-party content

Where we embed content hosted elsewhere — for example a video in an article — that provider may set its own cookies once the content loads. We note this where it applies, and we prefer providers that do not set cookies until the content is played.

6. Changes

If we introduce a new category of cookie we will update this page before doing so, and where consent is required we will ask for it rather than assume it. The date at the top of this page reflects the current version.
