Questions

What we will and will not do on a story

Including the competitor question, which is worth knowing before you call.

Working with us on a story

Will you comment on a competitor or a named vendor?

We will discuss technology and approaches candidly, including their trade-offs, and we will not brief against a named competitor. If the story needs someone to say a vendor is bad, we are the wrong source; if it needs someone to explain why an architecture keeps failing, we are a good one.

Can you provide a client for the story?

Sometimes, and only with the client's explicit consent for that specific story. Most of our work is under NDA and in regulated sectors the client often cannot be named at all. We will not put a client forward without asking them, which is why this takes one to two weeks rather than a day.

Do you review quotes before publication?

We ask to check quotes attributed to our people for factual accuracy, not for tone or framing. If your outlet's policy does not allow it, say so and we will still take the interview — we would rather be quoted accurately than not at all.

Working on a story?

Tell us the angle and the deadline. If we are not the right source we will usually know who is.
